Refer to this page if you're in the mood for some good reminiscing or if you missed an event, this page should fill you in. If you have anything to contribute to this page, go ahead and email Justine your experience/pictures/videos at [email protected] and if the content is appropriate, it'll be up ASAP! It'd be certainly appreciated. Really! We're not here JUST to provide you with community service. It's also about the amazing experiences and creation of memories.

Coastal Clean Up Day
California is our home, so why not tidy it up every once in a while? This Saturday we aim to do just that, give back to the land we love, and clear the trash and wastes we've left behind on our beautiful golden coast beaches. In addition, not only will we clean up one of our natural playgrounds, we get to enjoy it too with a well deserved beach day immediately following the volunteer event.
"The Coastal Clean Up Day was a good way to start fall break. It was nice to know that there are organizations like I Love A Clean San Diego and people such as the wonderful volunteers participating in beautifying our community. Starting in the morning, we had our two bags for recyclables and trash. Gloves covering our hands while our partners kept score, we began our search for trash. We found cigarette buds, plastic bottles, food wrappers, caps, a Starbucks cup, and more. A few members even found a dead bird lying around somewhere in the beach. For the most part, there was little trash to be seen and by the end of the event, we felt good that we helped clean up Silver Strand a little more. When all of that was over, it was time for the Beach Day. Playing with the sand, getting soaked by the water, looking for sand dollars, listening to music, and even failing to roast some marshmallows for smores, lots of activities were done that day. It was nice talking with the others members and sharing some laughs. Overall, the Coastal Clean Up Day was quite a fun-filled event to have joined."

Christian's Big Heart
Aug 28, 8:00 - 10:30 a.m.
Living in the time and place we do, we often take life and all it encompasses for granted. Even in death, Cristian Acosta-Flores open our eyes to this. A 2013 Olympian High School Graduate, Cristian died 2 years ago of a heart condition. Now while he may be gone, his legacy remains: an annual 5k Walk/Run dedicated to honoring his memory and bringing his community together to remember this: that life is not a guarantee so hold each other close, before you no longer have that option to choose to do so.
Twain Fest - Aug 20 Featuring Mai Perez's Experience
"Old Town is one of the funnest places to spend a day in San Diego, whether it be as a visitor or volunteer. While volunteering at TwainFest I enjoyed a August afternoon with my friends under the shaded lawn behind the schoolhouse, passing out cookies and cups of cool lemonade to visitors as part of the “Mad Hatter’s Tea Party” attraction. For the most part, our time running the booth wasn’t busy and we relaxed in the shade, but whenever the show held in the schoolhouse finished and the audience filed out of the stuffy room, chaos broke loose. I desperately tried fend off the over-eager hands of toddlers from the cookies, fill plastic cups with lemonade, and try to keep napkins from being blown away by a breeze that seemed to somehow appear at the worst moment possible. However, once everyone was served and settled down, it was heart-warming to see the children and their families play “Queen of Hearts” Croquet and the Frog Toss. Afterwards, I helped with breaking down the different booths and packaging the leftover books from the festival that were being offered as prizes for playing the different games. Overall, I’m glad I was able to work at TwainFest and I hope I have the opportunity to do it next year!"

October 17, 2009 - Diabetes Walk
The Diabetes Walk was incredibly productive, but at the same time fun! We all know it's not the greatest thing to wake up extremely early and have to drive in the thick fog... but knowing it's for a good cause makes it all worth while. A satisfying amount of people attended this event and we can't thank you all enough for helping out. There were many signs and t-shirts the walkers were displaying that I know were very heart-warming and heart-wrenching at the same time. So, those who were stationed at water stations, as route monitors, or even if you just cheered for the walkers-- your contributions made an impact and I know they all appreciated our attendance.

Knowing you helped tons of people with HIV/AIDS can't be any more rewarding.

I'm pretty sure we're professionals at setting up canopies now -- we probably set up at least 10. We cheered for the bicyclists, handed people (and a dog) water, and pointed them to the right direction. AND, we got free t-shirts. What a day it was. What a day.
September 20th, 2009 - Kid's Festival @ New Hope Church
It was a day filled with playing games with kids and eating free food (well, mostly free). Could it have gotten any better? YEAH! Here's some pictures taken by yours truly. Enjoy.

Enjoy! (There will be more uploaded once Charmaine gets some pictures off her camera, too. :D ... or if YOU have anything to send us, of course! It's never too late!)
